About Cindy

My name is Cindy Garland, and I teach women's ministry courses in the School of Theology and Global Leadership. I graduated from BJU in 1986 with a degree in Church Ministries and a minor in Speech. I then received a master's degree from the School of Education and Human Services in 1988. I've furthered my theological training through seminary courses and workshop training in Bible expositition through the Charles Simeon Trust.

God has also given me unique training through life experiences. I lost my first husband, Steve Melius, to cancer in 1994 after nearly 5 years of marriage. I then spent 8 years as a residence hall supervisor, after which I began my teaching career. In 2012, I married Doug Garland, who works in the provost's office at BJU. As a result, I inherited 4 wonderful children, all BJU grads, and love being a grandmother to our 6 grandchildren.

God has given me opportunties to speak in women's conferences and other events, and I currently assist in the GriefShare ministry at our local church. My most repeated instruction to my students is, "You need to be reading through the entirety of your Bible on a regular basis for the rest of your life." My desire is to instill in my students a desire to be in God's Word so that they can grow in their love for Him and for their neighbor.
