About

Kelly Walter is an Instructor in the Division of English Language and Literature in the College of Arts and Science at Bob Jones University. She has earned two degrees at BJU: a BS in English Education with a Special Emphasis in Teaching English as a Second Language (2012) and an MA in English (2014). Miss Walter’s experience in education spans several areas: she served in the English Division as a faculty graduate assistant; at BJU's Distance Learning, where she has facilitated online classes; and at BJUPress, where she was a proofreader, a project editor, and a secondary writer at various times. Over time, Miss Walter has earned several certifications, including the Initial Teacher’s Certification for Secondary English in South Carolina, the Initial Teacher’s Certification for Middle-Level English in South Carolina, an Advanced Certification for Teaching English as a Second Language, and a Professional Certificate in Online Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is also a member of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC). The experiences related to these certifications and roles have done much to develop in Miss Walter a dynamic perspective on education.

After accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior while a child, Miss Walter has been guided throughout her life by God’s faithful direction and blessing. One recurring theme of God’s direction for her has been her involvement in the area of education. Miss Walter’s love for education began as a child and has only grown since then. She passionately desires to connect with her students personally and to equip them with tools of communication so they can effectively engage with God and others. It is to that end that she constantly and yet imperfectly strives, realizing that a life surrendered to God is never wasted. When she is not in the classroom, Miss Walter enjoys reading, trying new recipes, and having long talks with old friends over a good cup of coffee and a delicious pastry.
