Students win $100k grant in XPRIZE competition
Eng 350: Global Challenges
A cross-disciplinary team of engineering, science and business students competed in the Elon Musk-funded XPRIZE carbon removal challenge. Under faculty guidance, they developed a proposal for a device capable of measuring carbon storage in soil, an important part of future carbon removal initiatives.
Throughout this hands-on course, each student’s expertise and perspective contributed to developing the final proposal. Out of 195 submissions, BJU was one of just 23 student-led teams to win an award in the $5M Carbon Removal Student Competition.
Art + music students bring history to life
Mu 480: Artistry in Action
After being gifted an authentic 16th century manuscript of a 6th century plainchant (a type of liturgical music), BJU faculty and students collaborated to share the artifact with the world.
They investigated the artifact’s history, designed a museum-quality display and composed a new setting of the plainchant. Then, they unveiled the artifact, presented their research and sang the 1500-year-old tune followed by the new musical setting during a live performance.
